Lot Size & Contract Value

You cannot buy just 1 unit of Nifty or BankNifty options. You must buy in bundles called "Lots".

Current Lot Sizes (Indices)

Nifty 50

75

Qty per Lot

BankNifty

15

Qty per Lot

FinNifty

40

Qty per Lot

* Note: Lot sizes are subject to change by NSE. Always check your broker.

Calculating Investment

If you see a Nifty Call Option trading at ₹100:

Regulatory Update (Jan 2026): NSE has revised lot sizes multiple times recently. Below are the current effective values, but these are subject to projected reductions in 2026.

  • Nifty 50: 65 Qty (1 Lot).
  • BankNifty: 30 Qty (1 Lot).
  • FinNifty: 60 Qty (1 Lot).
  • Example: 100 x 75 = ₹7,500 needed.

Contract Value (Notional Value)

This is the total value of the assets you are controlling.

If Nifty is at 22,000 and Lot Size is 75:
Contract Value = 22,000 x 75 = ₹16,50,000

Leverage: You control ₹16.5 Lakhs worth of assets by paying just ₹7,500 premium. This is why options can double your money or wipe it out instantly.
